FAQ – SHORT TERM CAR HIRE

What is a car rental agreement?

A car rental agreement is a contract, signed, subscribed and approved, by and between, you and B-RENT at the time of the pick-up. This document displays all the conditions, the characteristics and the rate charged for the hired vehicle.

How do you calculate the rental fee?

The final cost of rental is calculated during the reservation, according to your requests. The overall amount will also include any selected ancillary. Our operators will provide you further details, listing all the deductibles applied by the company, before signing the rental agreement at the time of the pick-up.

Which costs are included in the rental fee?

Besides all the mandatory costs arranged during reservation, the rental fee generally includes:

The value-added tax (VAT), or any akin local contribution
Unlimited mileage for hire cars
Deductibles for theft and damages
Additional driver (online bookings from our website)

What do I need at the time of the pick-up?

Booking your hire car online, you can pay with any kind of card or using your PayPal account. However, at the time of the pick-up you will compulsorily need:

Confirmation voucher/eVoucher;
A credit card issued by a bank (No Debit Card/Stored-Value Card/Financial Institution-issued Card), with enough funds to pay for the security deposit;
A valid Driving Licence;
Identity Card, passport or any other document that might be used to attest your personal details.

How old should I be to rent a car?

The holder of the rental agreement and any authorised additional driver must be aged between 19 and 75 years old. Young drivers under 25 years old shall pay a small daily fee: 12€ for drivers aged between 19 and 21 years old; 23€ for drivers aged between 22 and 24 years old.

May I book a hire car for someone else?

Yes, you may. However, all the personal details of the additional driver shall be provided during the reservation. The holder of the rental agreement must match with the main driver, who must be present (together with any additional driver) at the pick-up time.

How can I reduce my liability in case of theft or damages?

In order to reduce your liability in the event that your hire car is stolen or damaged, you could ask for our excess reduction, while booking online or before the pick-up time.

We offer two different formulas:

• Free to Drive: reduces the security deposit to 90€ and releases you from any liability in case of theft and damage

• Comfort Cover: reduces the security deposit and your liability for theft, to 490€ and up to 400€, respectively, with no further charges in case of damages

Notice: The Free to Drive and the Comfort Cover are applied slightly differently to the J, J Top and J Suv categories as well as to vehicles hired in Campania.

Who will pay in case of violation of the traffic code?

Traffic offences, fines and citations, default in payment of the parking fees and any other violation regulated by administrative penalties, are under full and exclusive responsibility of the Renter. Therefore, even if the rental period is over, B-Rent will re-notice any eventual pecuniary penalty (and the relative surcharge in case of late payment), directly from the institution that has issued the traffic fine, to the Renter. In addition, the client shall pay another surcharge for extraordinary operating expenses, as shown in GENERAL RENTAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS). For further information, please fill the pertinent form TRAFFIC FINES AND CITATIONS MANAGEMENT.

What happens if don’t return the vehicle in time?

Our fees are usually determined on a daily basis (24 hours from the pick-up time). When the car is returned late, the fee is recalculated considering every ongoing 24 hours period, as a whole new day of rental. B-Rent provides a 59 minutes threshold of tolerance after the expiration of the 24 hours, which means that a rental period of 24 hours and 59 minutes will still be considered as one only day.

NOTICE: If you bought an excess reduction, remember that it lapses as soon as the period specified on the rental agreement is over. Therefore, if you decide to return your hire car after the date scheduled, you should call the car hire to modify the rental agreement in order to extend the validity period of the excess reduction.

What should I do if my hire car is stolen?

First of all, you should immediately call the local police. Then, it’s very important to inform the closest of our offices, delivering the “theft and/or key loss report” provided by the police. Your financial liability will change according to the excess reduction you decided to purchase at the pick-up time, as indicated in our GENERAL RENTAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

What happens if I lose the keys?

In case of key loss, you should immediately call our roadside assistance at the toll-free number: 800 71 39 98 from Italy, or 02 582 45 794 from abroad.

What should I do in case of crash or vehicle breakdown?

B-Rent provides a daily roadside assistance all year long. If you are having a hard time with your hire car, you can call the numbers printed on the back of your rental agreement and on its folder. In case of traffic collision, you must report a written account reconstructing the accident dynamics. Furthermore, together with the other driver involved, you shall fill the CAI (road accident acknowledgment) form, that is in the folder of your rental agreement. Without these documents, you will be charged as the only responsible for the reparation costs. Nevertheless, in case of a serious accident, you should immediately call the police.

What happens if I do not return the vehicle to the same location where I picked it up?

You should return the vehicle to the same location that was scheduled during the reservation. However, if needed, you can pay a surcharge to drop-off your hire car in a different place. Ask about the One-way, before the pick-up.

Should I inspect the conditions of the vehicle before leaving the car hire?

Of course, you should verify that the state of the vehicle corresponds to the conditions acknowledged in the rental agreement. In case you discover a flaw which doesn’t match, you shall immediately report it to the rental agent, who will escort you into a new examination of the vehicle, before proceeding with the rectification of the rental agreement. Please, notice that you will liable for any unmarked irregularity discovered when the car is back to its location.

Should I return the vehicle with the full tank of fuel?

The vehicle should be returned to the car hire with the same level of fuel it had at the time of the pick-up. In this eventuality, no further surcharge will be applied for the Refuelling Service; otherwise, the renter shall pay the cost of the missing fuel and the Refuelling Service, as shown in our GENERAL RENTAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

Is there a time limit to modify/cancel my reservation?

If you’ve booked your hire car directly from our website, you can modify or cancel your reservation even if it’s already confirmed. However, it should be done within 24 hours before pick-up time.

If you’ve booked your hire car through another website, unfortunately we cannot help you. You should try to contact directly the broker where you made your reservation.

Does B-Rent have mileage limits?

It depends on the vehicle. We provide unlimited mileage for all our hire cars. However, if you are thinking to rent a van or a minibus, you will have some limitations.

Is there any hidden cost or surcharge?

Of course not. All the details of your reservation are visible on our website and on your rental agreement.

May I select the model of the car/van I am renting?

You may choose the category of the vehicle, but not its model. Since not every location can hold all our vehicles, we can only guarantee the same category you selected during the reservation.

I'm a non-EU citizen, is my driving license valid? What do I need in order to duly drive in Italy?

Drivers in possession of a community driving licence (EU) expiring according to EU regulations (art. 7 par. 2 dir. 2006/126/CEE) can duly circulate up to the expiry date.

If the customer is a non-EU citizen in possession of a driving licence issued by a foreign state, driving is permitted in Italy up to one year from the residence acquisition, on condition that he/she has a sworn translation of the driving licence or an international driving permit. If these requirements are not fulfilled (i.e. driving with a foreign licence without a sworn translation/international permit) the Italian traffic law provides for a sanction for the transgressor (Art. 135, comma 8 CdS).

Thus, for non-EU driving licence holders:
- In order to rent a vehicle, the customer in possession of a non-EU driving licence must have an international driving permit or a sworn translation of the driving licence (issued by the related embassy or consulate), together with the standard driving licence. The international driving licence is valid up to the indicated expiry date.
If the above-mentioned requirements are not fulfilled the rental will be refused and the related booking cancelled.
- The driving licences of non-EU citizens residing in Italy for more than one year, are no longer valid even if the related international driving permit has not expired yet.

I made a reservation via b-rent.com website, but I have never received any e-mail confirmation / voucher. What should I do?

Dial the (+39) 800 00 56 57, follow the instructions and talk to the booking dept. or e-mail us at [email protected]. We recommend to keep at hand your payment details (i.e. PayPal receipt, bank statement, etc.).
